News & NOTES from the NJSPLS Board of Directors

SurvCon 2017 – One for the Record Books

If you weren’t there, you missed a great one! From the starter’s gun, to the final whistle, this conference filled the surveyor’s needs for knowledge, information, and best of all, networking.

Nearly 800 registrants made this one of SurvCon’s biggest events. The abundant camaraderie with all those folks you may see only once a year was exciting. One of the best parts of the conference was all the newfaces. A hearty welcome to all those new participants.

Twenty-four courses were offered over a period of three days. Whether you were interested in law, equipment, technical information, or management, these courses had it covered. Numerous courses had over 150 attendees. One of the well-attended classes was “Bathymetric Surveying”, as presented by James Dunkley, Daniel Huyke, Karen Ann Riley and Michael Wyatt, which created many positive responses (a strong chance this course may be back next year). “Ethics, Professionalism and the Courts” by Kris Kline was also one of the highly-attended classes, as was his course on “Three More Ways To Find Trouble”. NJSPLS members Lew Conley and Nick Wunner gave the attendees reviews of various state codes. Nick also gave an interesting course on municipal boundaries. <read more>
