News & NOTES from the NJSPLS Board of Directors
Celebrate National Surveyors Week
March 18-24, 2018
It’s not breaking news that the annual number of retiring surveyors far exceeds the number of those entering the surveying profession. It’s up to us, as surveyors, to reverse this trend. One of the best ways to do that is to introduce the newest generation to the surveying profession. Show them how interesting your job is and how it relates to their local community.
National Surveyors Week is March 18-24, 2018. You can do your part by participating in this annual event by spreading the word about opportunities as a Professional Land Surveyor. Click here to view our poster about Land Surveying that you can copy and share with your community.
2018 NJSPLS Committees Formed
The NJSPLS has many different committees, dedicated to the promotion of the Professional Land Surveying field. Watch this page for important insight into what we are doing for you. President Ambrose Gmeiner has appointed the 2018 committee chairs and members, in addition to creating a few Ad Hoc committees on timely issues.
If you would like to volunteer to serve on one of these committees, please contact NJSPLS. For a list of the 2018 Committees and their function, please click here: Committees

NJSPLS Creates Awareness for the Profession at the NJSCA Fall Conference
By John Beattie, PLS, NJSPLS Vice President
On Friday, September 29th, NJSPLS members Carl Peters, Ambrose Gmeiner, John D. Beattie, James Heiser, and Adam Grant along with Executive Director Mark Husik and Dr. Laramie Potts of NJIT exhibited at the NJ School Counselor Association’s Fall Conference. This turned out to be a tremendous opportunity to increase the visibility of our organization and our profession. We met with hundreds of high school guidance counselors who were excited to hear about the diversity of opportunities in our field. Many have invited us to come and give presentations to their students about our profession. This will become an annual event as part of our continuing strategy to create awareness about the surveying profession and NJSPLS.
